Role:
As one of the owners and the Executive Director of Visiting Angels, Jeanette oversees all facets of Visiting Angel’s daily operations.
Background:
For Jeanette, the Visiting Angels adventure began when she was quite young, as she spent weekends keeping her maternal grandmother company while her grandfather was in the hospital and then continuing to share weekends after his passing.
Eventually, she shared in the difficult reality of watching her grandmother’s decline into dementia. Having the privilege of observing her father lovingly care for his mom, who is now in her 90s, Jeanette quickly realized that sometimes love is not enough, and not everyone has the patience for all aspects of caregiving for one’s parents.
It became clear that sometimes the best thing an adult child can do is to accept their limitations and allow others to help in those areas. Essentially, the birth of Visiting Angels began as Jeanette and her sister supported her dad by taking grandma grocery shopping, to the bank and on other errands- activities that, basically, drove their dad nuts!
Jeanette comes from a background of family business owners, having started working at the age of 12 with her dad at the woodworking company started by her great grandfather. Jeanette and her husband, Tony, have been small business owners since 1991.
Why:
Coming from a large family and having spent countless hours enjoying the love, guidance and wisdom of all four of her grandparents, Jeanette learned at an early age to cherish time spent with seniors and to appreciate the lessons learned from the stories passed down through the generations.
Jeanette has a strong commitment to family and understands the importance for elders to maintain their independence while living safely and comfortably in their own homes. She understands the balance required to care for the elderly in a way that maintains their dignity while offering support and peace of mind to the adult children as they journey through the aging process with their parents.
Interests:
Jeanette spends much of her free time involved with the activities of her husband and three sons. You might find her helping Tony show his photography at a local art and wine festival or perhaps as a cheerleader at any one of a number of sports enjoyed by her youngest son. You also might see her enjoying a glass of wine on a warm afternoon with her oldest sons and their wonderful girlfriends or maybe a sharing a weekend getaway at family owned property in Northern California with her mom and dad, brothers and sisters, nieces and nephews. Whenever she has a moment to herself, you will find her enjoying a good book!
